Hi, I'm kate!

I’m a dance photographer, educator, and creative business mentor based on the Sunshine Coast. I’ve spent the past 17+ years capturing movement, emotion, and artistry through my lens.

Since launching Picture This by Kate Whatman in 2008 when I was 17, I’ve built a thriving photography business that specialises in dynamic, high-impact dance imagery. I’ve photographed thousands of dancers from all over the world, worked with studios across Australia, and mentored many up-and-coming creatives ready to turn their hobby into a business.

I’m also the creator of best-selling digital resources like The Dance Pose Playbook and Dance Pose Prompt Cards for Dance Photoshoots, which help photographers capture stunning shots (even if they’ve never danced a day in their life).

My two girls (13 & 11) each had their first studio mini-shoot with the lovely Kate recently and the photos have come back beautiful. Can’t believe what was achieved in 15 mins, the perfect way to get comfortable in front of the camera! My girls had a ball and felt at ease very quickly.
