6 Poses That Look Incredible in Rain Photoshoots (And How to Direct Them)

May 27, 20254 min read

💧✨ Want shots that stop the scroll? These rain-ready poses bring the heat, the drama, and the splash.

Rain photoshoots are not your average shoot. The water moves, the light bounces, and the energy is electric. But not every pose works in this environment. You need shapes and moments that interact with the rain—literally.

Whether you're the dancer making magic or the photographer behind the lens, these are the six poses that always deliver jaw-dropping results in our rain sessions (plus how to direct them without sounding like a wet sponge).

1. The Flashdance Hair Whip

💥 Instant drama. Iconic. Totally worth the neck workout.

How to direct it:
“Sit or kneel, tip your head back fast, and whip your hair like you're throwing away your last heartbreak.”
Shoot in burst mode and prep to get low with your camera for maximum arc.

🔥 Best for: Dancers with long hair, strong backs, and that main character energy.

2. The Crawling Siren

Seductive, powerful, and soaked in confidence.

How to direct it:
“Start on all fours, then slowly crawl forward while dragging your hand through the water like you're painting your name in it.”
Encourage strong eye contact with the camera or just past it for a cinematic feel.

🔥 Best for: Sensual, burlesque, or pole-inspired movement lovers.

3. The Power Arch (Standing or Floor)

Strong silhouettes win in the rain—especially arched backs with extended arms.

How to direct it:
“Plant your feet or knees, lift your chest, arch your back, and reach like the rain is pulling you upwards.”
Use backlighting to highlight muscle tone and water streaks.

🔥 Best for: Flexibility queens and anyone wanting a powerful, feminine shot.

4. The Skirt or Fabric Spin

Nothing moves like a wet skirt in motion—especially when lit just right.

How to direct it:
“Give me one big spin with your arms slightly out and your skirt or fabric flying. Bonus points for a head whip mid-turn.”
Have them repeat for a few takes to get the best flow.

🔥 Best for: Dancers wearing flowing skirts, robes, or chiffon overlays.

5. The Floor Slide + Arm Drag

Slow, controlled floorwork = instant visual texture.

How to direct it:
“Lie on your side or belly, slowly slide through the water, and drag your arm like you're tracing waves.”
Angle the camera low to make the water movement more dramatic.

🔥 Best for: Controlled movers who are comfortable getting completely soaked.

6. The Rebel Stance

Sometimes, less is more. A bold, still pose with attitude hits harder than any jump.

How to direct it:
“Stand tall, feet wide, hands on hips or behind your head. Let the rain fall, and stare the camera down like you just started the storm.”
Use strong lighting and a tight crop for impact.

🔥 Best for: High-impact portraits, album cover energy, or statement shots.

💃 BONUS: The Flashdance Chair Pose

You know the one. The iconic back arch, water pouring down, legs planted, hair everywhere. It's bold, it’s cinematic, and it always gets a reaction.

How to direct it:
“Sit at the edge of the chair, feet grounded. Arch your back, let your head tip all the way back, and throw your arms wide like you just hit the finale of your own movie montage.”
Use a controlled water pour (or rain burst) from above for maximum drama—and shoot from a low angle to make them look larger than life.

🔥 Best for: Big energy dancers, statement shots, or anyone who’s ever screamed “SHE’S GIVING FLASHDANCE.”

Pro Tips for Photographers:

📸 Get low. Water looks better when shot from below the eye line.
📸 Use short bursts and backlight for max splash.
📸 Hype your dancer like you’re front row at their concert. The more confident they feel, the more iconic the shots.

🎬 Watch the Flashdance moment and book your session before spots vanish like dry towels.
